Farmer Josh Girard
Josh Girard grew up in Lyman, Maine. He is the son of Rene and Cathy Girard. After graduating from Massabesic, Josh studied engineering at Boston University. His curiosity about the world and desire to have a positive impact on the lives of others lead him to join the Master’s International Program at the University of South Florida.
Learning to Work with Nature
As part of his graduate studies, Josh spent two years working as an aquaculture extension agent for the Peace Corps in Zambia. His experiences in gardening in Zambia and at home taught him the joys and rewards of growing food.
In 2013 and 2014, Josh apprenticed at Frith Farm in Scarborough, Maine. He then worked at Black Kettle Farm in Lyman, Two Farmers Farm in Scarborough, and Neversink Farm in New York State. He founded Girard Farm in 2015. Josh also helps run the Saco Farmers’ Market.
A Family Farm
After spending many years in school and working abroad, Josh is enjoying setting down roots in his hometown. He is extremely grateful for the support of his parents for hosting the farm stand and all their help in many farm projects.
Meet the Farm Crew
Everything at the farm is grown with care, respect for nature, long days, and hard work. We are incredibly grateful for our crew who work with us day in, day out, in the heat and rain. These photos give you a small glimpse into all they do, from prepping the soil and planting seedlings to scouting the fields, harvesting, and post-harvest cleaning—and endless work in between.
